Associação Projecto Vitó
Associação Projecto Vitó is a Civil Society organization that originated on the island of Fogo, Cape Verde in 2009. It resulted from an initiative of a group of volunteers following the rescue of a sea turtle (Vitoria or Vitó) found by a local fisherman which mobilized several environmental activists to start a Turtle Conservation project in the Municipality of S. Filipe, Fogo Island Cape Verde. From 2010 onwards, the Association was legalized and began to implement, together with several other national entities, the National Plan for the Conservation of Sea Turtles, thus receiving the first funding from the National Directorate of Environment – Government of Cape Verde for turtle protection on the island of Fogo.
